THE SPIRIT OF CLOVE
Being one of the natural resources that also forms the identity of the people of North Maluku, clove bud is the main spice whose sweet aroma evokes a distinctive taste for hand-rolled Kretek.
THE FINEST TOBACCO
Some of the best tobacco in the world is native to Indonesia. Due to local fanning customs, soil characteristics, rainfall, altitude, and climate, there are regional variations in the scent and nicotine concentration.
SPECIAL INGREDIENTS
There is a final set of components in the kretek that are kept a secret, which are herbal extracts and a variety of organic scents. The blend of tobacco and cloves is enhanced by these substances, serving the last element that contributes to each brand’s distinctive flavor.
DJARUM HISTORY
DJARUM HISTORY
1951
Oei Wie Gwan, an ethnic Chinese businessman, purchased NV Murup, a practically bankrupt tobacco manufacturer in Kudus, Central Java. 'Djarum' was the initial brand of the company, meaning "needle".
1963
A fire destroyed the company's facility, which was followed by the passing of Oei Wie Gwan. The company was later rebuilt by the new proprietors, Oei Wie Gwan's sons, Bambang Hartono and Robert Budi Hartono.
1970
As a kretek product pioneer, Djarum formed a research and development department in the 1960s, followed by the construction of an official R&D center in 1970 with the goal of inventing new kretek blends.
1972
Djarum started exporting hand-rolled kretek and machine-rolled kretek to tobacco retailers in several countries from around the world. The product being sold was Djarum Spesial.
1983
In 1983, the organizational structure was changed to Limited Liability Company (or PT), changing the company's name to PT. Djarum Kudus. PT. Djarum currently employs 75,000 in cities other than Kudus, including Pati, Rembang, and Jepara.
